Dexters are the only naturally small breed of cattle. They originated in Ireland. These cattle come in black, red or dun and can be farmed for both milk and meat.

They are beautiful and docile animals, and many people have them simply as pets and lawn mowers.

History

In August 2002 we purchased two Dexter cross Jersey heifers from Murwillumbah, NSW. For a while they ate the grass down in one of the olive paddocks. Then, in January 2003, we bought five more cows, a bull, and three calves from Inverell.

Since buying the Dexters in 2003 our herd has grown steadily, and the Dexters are now a popular part of the farmstay experience at Surveyors Hill.
