Overlooking the valley of the Murrumbidgee River in a very beautiful landscape on the slope of Surveyor’s Hill, our property covers 225 acres, and has plantings of 25 acres of vines. People who stay with us enjoy walking and exploring this historic part of the Canberra region, and those who enjoy a bit of a climb can walk to the top of Surveyor’s Hill itself (735 metres), where great views can be had of Canberra and the Murrumbidgee valley. Bed and Breakfast at Surveyors Hill has unique features, and is provided in the 1930s family homestead. Breakfast is served in the private dining room of the cottage. The cottage has two double bedrooms with Queen size beds, and is fully self contained and private, with all facilities including an excellent kitchen, open fire in lounge room, electric heaters in all rooms etc. Guests have the cottage for their exclusive use because we only let it to one couple or family or group of friends at any one time.Food at Surveyors Hill Gourmet food, carefully prepared by people with a professional restaurant background, is a much loved feature of a stay at Surveyors Hill for those guests who choose to dine in the self-contained privacy of the cottage dining room. Here are some SAMPLE MENUS and DISHES from previous meals Double Lamb Cutlets, Tabbouli, Eggplant & Sweet Red Onions, on a red wine Jus For dinner, we offer the option of a three course set menu, or a three course meal with two choices in each course. All meals are accompanied by a complementary glass (or two!!) of our wines with each course. Menus vary every week according to seasonal availability and guests wishes. Vegetarian meals are a specialty.Sardine and served with aioli. Wherever possible farm, local or daily market produce is used to create meals of a standard which have been commended in the Sydney Morning Herald and Age newspapers.Pollo con Pinones A Spanish chicken dish. Free-range chicken pieces in a rich sauce of herbs, raw ham and pine-nuts Enjoy the luxury of a meal served by an open fire, in either contemporary Australian style, or ranging across cuisines from SE Asia and South India .All Indian and Asian meals are prepared from first principles and do not use pre-packaged ingredients Lahb Gai Lime juice flavoured chicken salad & Two South East Asian Curries Red curried pork & Green curry vegetables
Imagine sitting by a crackling fire, enjoying a glass of one of our award winning wines before finishing your meal with an exquisite dessert, perhaps using blackberries from our creek or similar wild or farm ingredients! Peach Melba under a sauce made from the Settlers' Mulberries & home-made Ice Cream
Of course, you may want to self-cater. In that case all the equipment you need is in the cottage's kitchen. Either way, wining and dining is one of the great pleasures of the experience at Surveyors Hill
For $55 per head (incl. GST) (see "Tariff" section below) we offer a three course set menu, with complementary Surveyors Hill wines with each course. . We have a background in the restaurant business, and our meals are of an excellent standard.The dishes mentioned above are samples only, and each week we prepare dishes based on currently available regional, and, when possible, farm grown ingredients. We also provide childrens’ meals if required at a reduced price. Meals include a complementary glass of our wine with each course for each person --- red or white according to preference. Meals are served in the self-contained privacy of the cottage dining room. Wine availability, and Guest Discount Policy We currently have six table wines available, and guests in the B&B are entitled to GENEROUS discounts on wines purchased.
TARIFF for 2006/2007 Our current nightly charge for 2 people for full B&B is $135, ask about groups. Children over 4 years of age are charged at $20 per child.
Dinner is provided optionally at $55 per head including GST: this provides for a set menu 3-course meal (menu discussed in advance but normally based around farm and/or locally grown produce and including generous amounts of our wines with each course)
