NEW DIRECTIONS IN VITICULTURE

We specialise presently in Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc blends, Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Cabernet Franc blends, and Shiraz (ie mostly "French" varietal wines).

BUT THIS IS ABOUT TO CHANGE!!!

We are also substantially re-developing our vineyard, with NEW PLANTINGS including Viognier, Rousanne, Marsanne, Grenache, Tempranillo, and two very promising Italian varieties, Aglianico and Nero d'Avola. Additionally we have planted small areas of Moscato Giallo and Muscadelle.

Wines from these varieties will commence production during 2010/2011, although we anticipate picking small quantities of Grenache and Tempranillo commencing 2009.

All wines at Surveyors Hill are made only from grapes grown here, in vineyards at 550 to 680 metres above sea level.  Our vineyards lie on the slopes of Surveyors Hill, an ancient volcano which was active more than 350 million years ago, leaving deep aging, granitic-like rocks (known as ignimbrite) of a coarse structure which yield low fertility sandy soils.

Our climate here is almost identical to that of central Spain, between Rioja and Valladolid.

We have the following varieties at Surveyors Hill: Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and in reds, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Touriga and Shiraz.
